Development of landscape master plan for grounds of Howard Van Doren Shaw’s
country estate now used as an artist retreat. Project included inventory
of landscape and features, on-going management of grounds, interface with
historical research, development of phasing and implementation plan. Recommendations
respected the Shaw family’s historic development of the site and
included new foot paths, low-impact lighting, enhanced garden plantings,
containment of parking, and management of the wooded borders of the site.
Construction of various elements including new and enhanced plantings,
new low-impact paths, garden features, removal of invasive shrub and trees
from the woodland areas along with upgrades in maintenance have been executed
over several years for the improvement for modern use of the site. For
